Kaolin Fire (he/him/his) has been developing software independently since the days of DOOR games, not counting hours entering machine code from the back of COMPUTE!'s Gazette. He's had fiction and poetry published in Strange Horizons, Crossed Genres, and Murky Depths, among others; has taught computer science at high school and college levels; dabbles in cover art and cover design; and obsesses about the human brain. He knows whereof androids dream.
What’s here
erif.org has been accumulating since 1996, so it is part portfolio and part attic. The parts I would point at:
- Apps — nine on the App Store, the oldest shipping since 2013 and still updated.
- Art — oil on canvas, digital work, and book covers done for small presses.
- Writing — short fiction and poetry, mostly science fiction and fantasy.
- Résumé — in HTML, PDF, plain text, or XML.
Older material — comics, 3D models, photo galleries going back to 2000 — is still here and still served: old links keep working. It is archive, not portfolio.

The site itself
Hand-written PHP on nginx, no framework, no CMS. The current design is a 2026 rebuild — clay, paper, forest green — replacing Aaron Ganschow’s Tidy Blog, which served faithfully from 2006. The attic is kept playable: the Flash games run again via Ruffle, and the Java-applet era via CheerpJ.
